On 12th July, Hon'ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chaired the Administrative review meeting for Purba Medinipur in Digha.The Chief Minister, during her speech, laid an emphasis on the increase of nulias (local divers) who often save people from being swept away by the currents while taking a bath in the sea. She also instructed the district administration of Purba Medinipur to take up a number of initiatives to make Digha a better place for tourists. She asked the senior administrative officials to engage 100 days' work in this initiative. In the meeting, she instructed responsible officials to complete the proposed ‘Marine Drive' between Digha and Mandarmani in one year. She directed all the officers to keep watch whether the ICDS centres were functioning properly. At the same time the police have been directed to set up kiosks at spots including Kolaghat, Khejuri and Tamluk with "May I Help You" boards fitted on them where tourists and commoners can come for assistance if needed.

Kanyashree Prakalpa recognized as the best project by United Nations

The state government's Kanyashree Prakalpa was adjudged as the best project and was awarded the first prize in United Nations Public Service Award for Asia Pacific on June 23rd in The Hague. The Kanyashree Prakalpa, which has helped more than 40 lakh female students across the state, was ranked the best among 552 such social sector schemes from across 62 countries that were nominated for the coveted award. The award was presented at the World Public Service Forum by UN Assistant Secretary General. After receiving the award, the Hon'ble Chief Minister dedicated it to the Kanyashree girls and said, "We are delighted on behalf of our countrymen and the people of Bengal to receive the first prize on UN Public Service Day. Receiving the first prize from the UN for Kanyashree is a huge honour and recognition".

HMT Ltd., the holding company has five subsidiaries under it namely, HMT Machine Tools Limited. HMT Watches Limited, HMT Chinar Watches Limited, HMT Bearings Limited and HMT International Ltd., Out of the above, 3 subsidiaries namely, HMT Watches Limited, HMT Chinar Watches Ltd. and HMT Bearings Ltd., and the Tractor Division of HMT Ltd. have since been approved for closure with attractive VRS/VSS to their employees. These companies were chronically sick and were not in a position to even pay salary and other statutory dues to their employees. However, there is no proposal for shutting down the other subsidiaries of the Company, namely HMT machine Tools Ltd. and HMT International Ltd.

The appointment of non-official (Independent) Directors on the Boards of Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) is a continuous process. The non-official Directors are appointed on the Boards of CPSEs by the concerned administrative Ministries on the basis of recommendations of Search Committee and after obtaining the approval of competent authority. During the last three years, i.e. 2015, 2016 and 2017 (till date), Search Committee has recommended the names for filling up 144, 233 and 15 positions of non-official Directors (including 85 women), on the Boards of various CPSEs. The concerned Ministries are being regularly requested to furnish the proposals for filling up vacant positions of non-official Directors on the Boards of CPSEs under their respective administrative jurisdiction.

            As a part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP 2020), the Government of India formulated a scheme namely Faster Adoption and    Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric vehicles in India [FAME-India] for a period of 6 years,             till 2020, wherein it is intended to support the hybrid /electric vehicle market development and its manufacturing eco-system to achieve self-sustenance at the end of     the stipulated period. The scheme is one of the green initiatives of the Government of             India, which will be one of the biggest contributors in reducing pollution from road transport sector in near future. The     scheme has 4 focus areas i.e. Technology Development, Demand Creation, Pilot Projects and Charging Infrastructure.

National Programmme for Control of Blindness (NPCB) has been re-designated recently as National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI). Further, the definition of blindness under the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) has been modified in line with the definition used under the World Health Organization (WHO), i.e., ‘presenting distance visual acuity less than 3/60 (20/400) in the better eye or limitation of field of vision to be less than 10 degree from centre of fixation’.

Medical Council of India (MCI) with the prior approval of the Union Government has notified the amendment in Clause 1.5 of Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, vide notification dated 21.09.2016, which now prescribes “Every physician should prescribe drugs with generic names legibly and preferably in capital letters and he/she shall ensure that there is a rational prescription and use of drugs”.MCI has issued a Circular on 21.04.2017 vide which all the Registered Medical Practitioners under the Indian Medical Council (IMC) Act have been directed to comply with the aforesaid provisions. The State Medical Councils and MCI are empowered under the Ethics Code to take action against such doctors.

A sub-committee had been constituted by the Drugs Consultative Committee (DCC) to examine issues relating to online sale of drugs. The Sub-Committee has submitted its report to the Drugs Consultative Committee. The Sub-Committee has inter alia recommended:- 

• Creation of a National Portal to act as the nodal platform for transacting and monitoring online sale of drugs. 

• Necessity of evolving a mechanism to register e-pharmacies.

Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development have jointly developed Mother and Child Protection card for documenting and monitoring service for antenatal, intra natal and post natal care to Pregnant women. It includes information on free transport facility to hospital, institutional delivery, preparation in case of home delivery for the pregnant women, new born care, immunization and, stages of child developmentand growth monitoring of child till 3 year of age.
