FOR SUPPORT OF LABOUR, UNION GOVT SHOULD USE FUNDS FROM ESIC, MGNREGA ETC: CHAIRMAN KK BAWA

  • WRITES LETTER TO PRIME MINISTER & URGES HIM NOT TO PUT ADDITIONAL BURDEN ON INDUSTRIALISTS

Ludhiana- In view of Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, Mr KK Bawa, Chairman, Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation (PSIDC) today urged the Union government to put additional burden on the industrialists as the industry is already shut. He said that the labour working in these factories do not have any other source of income, and to help them financially, the Union government should use funds from ESIC, MGNREGA etc.

Mr Bawa said that he spoke to some local industrialists regarding the current scenario and the problems being faced by them and leading industrialist Mr Avinash Gupta informed that the Punjab industry is shut due to COVID 19. He also informed that the industry is already facing additional burden and now the Union government has asked the industrialists to pay salaries to the labour, which cannot be tolerated and it would further escalate their problems.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Bawa has stated that the Union government already has close to Rs 85,000 crore for ESIC fund, and Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh as well as Chief Ministers of other states and MPs have already appealed to Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi to use these funds for the betterment of labourers. He has appealed to the Union government to support the industrialists in this hour of need, rather than putting additional financial burden on them.
